Starship Flight 14, due end of August, is expected to be the vehicle's first operational payload deployment mission. Unlike Flight 13, which deployed 20 functional V3 satellites on a suborbital trajectory for testing before they reentered, this mission aims to place the next-generation satellites into orbits where they can join the active Starlink constellation.
The flight is also expected to attempt the first tower catch of a Starship upper stage (the Ship). Spaceflight trackers have pointed to a new FCC filing for Flight 14 that lists the first-stage booster as returning to the launch site (RTLS) rather than a Gulf splashdown. This has led to speculation that SpaceX could attempt a double catch, booster first (returning ~7 minutes after liftoff), then the Ship after its orbital flight (~90+ minutes later), using the same Mechazilla arms on the Pad B tower, with the booster moved aside in between.
