SpaceX closed a compute hosting deal worth about $1.11B a month, roughly $13B a year. CFO Bret Johnsen disclosed it at a Goldman Sachs conference without naming the customer, and said it starts December 1.

Starship will try to reach orbit for the first time on September 22, pending regulatory approval. It is set to deploy 26 Starlink V3 satellites, about 10 times the capacity of a Falcon 9 load of V2 Minis by SpaceX's count.

SpaceX moved more than 300 engineers into its AI data center buildout. The Information reports the shift followed a leadership overhaul after sites in Tennessee and Mississippi ran for months without backup power.

Morgan Stanley started covering EchoStar at Overweight with a $134 price target, about 44% upside. The bank calls it a discounted SpaceX proxy, citing its roughly $17B spectrum and Starlink deal with SpaceX.

How Payload Optimization Changes the Cost of a Delivered Kilogram
Sep 16, 2026 Falcon 9SpaceXStarshipLaunchStarlink

This analysis compares how full SpaceX's Falcon rocket flies for outside customers with how tightly the company packs its own Starlink missions, and traces what that gap does to the price of each kilogram. It also looks at why a spacecraft can run out of room before the rocket reaches its mass limit, and how much cargo a larger rocket like Starship needs to carry to spread its flight cost.
